As a writer it’s important that you take a few steps early on. Having said that, it’s never too late to get things going!
1. Register as a writer with a performing rights society to be sure that when your music is played on the radio or streamed on the internet that you receive your performance royalties. Check out BMI, ASCAP and SESAC in the US.
2. If you are a recording artist, register with SoundExchange. SoundExchange is an independent, non-profit performance rights organization that is designated by the U.S. Copyright Office to collect and distribute digital performance royalties...
